Old School Outfitters was just an idea at first and in 2021, it finally became a reality. Our founder, Gunnar Johnson, has been an outdoorsman his whole life. His first hunt ever was at 6 months old archery elk with his dad. His dad threw him in the top of his backpack and chased big bulls. Many years later he finished college with an Agricultural Business degree and he figured it was time to dedicate his time to his family's ranch. Between ranch work and farming, all Gunnar does is hunt. Hunting has always been a passion and more of an obsession than anything. He dedicates all of his free time to scouting and/or hunting all year long.
At this point in his life he began to think more about his true dream job, guiding. To start he helped more friends and family on their hunts to get some practice. During this time he guided for big western hunting outfitters in Arizona. Guiding was an enjoyable experience with those outfitters but, after a few years it was time to make some change. It was time to do things his own way, the old school way. This is where our name originated. At Old School Outfitters we believed cameras weren’t our style so we kept it old school with heavy scouting and glassing (this was before the camera ban in Arizona) . Our clients kill absolute slobs year in and year out with the guides doing it old school style. We put our nose to the ground well before your hunt and will be able to give you scouting reports.

Here at Old School Outfitters our main goal is to bring forth an experience in the outdoors unlike any other outfitter. Without you all we would not be able to do this, so with that we wanted to first thank our clients. Our philosophy is that we don’t want client/guide relationships. What we want is to make every client feel like family.
